This altar was part of the re-ordering of Gloucester Cathedral nave. We were commissioned to design and made all the pieces in the new nave sanctuary (not including the plinths), having been selected from a shortlist of 4 designer-makers, from an original list of 14. All the pieces are made using English oak, and hand-finished with oil.
The brief was to create choir seating and a communion table at the top of the nave, so that both were visible and felt approachable by the entire congregation. It was also important that all the furniture could be removed or rearranged easily to allow the space to be used flexibly.
These were designed and made to display some screens outlining the history of Gloucester Cathedral.
They were made out of Oak and Fumed Oak with custom made hinges.
This shows a set of furniture we made for a local church, all the pieces were made out of Oak.
The main pieces here are the Altar and Ambo which incorporated audio and lighting, the set also included Clergy seating, font and candle stands.
Set of three Bishops chairs made out of Oak.
Shaped solid Oak seats with twisted arms and legs, Oak laminated backs with carved detail that was used throughout the project.
Great image of the furniture we designed and made for Gloucester Cathedral.
“ We were very impressed with the way that Waywood approached
the brief, and their continuous commitment to the project despite
many delays at our end to secure funding and approvals. The end
result is of very high quality and has centre stage in our nave. “
