This table is a rarity for us in that we have had
it for long enough to achieve a fully-formed linseed oil finish. It
is a glorious finish, but takes at least a year to achieve if you
are doing it with no cheating, like using boiled oil. (When we offer
a linseed oil finish we normally do the first month which is the
most critical, and then the customer is briefed to complete the
process, usually with an occasional visit from us to help out.) The
colour is superb, and is at least as rich as the photo suggests. The
inlay was inspired by a childhood memory of Spirograph, which had
always delighted me. Having contemplated making giant cogged wheels,
we settled in the end for a single shape repeated eight times rather
than a continuous loop, which worked extremely well.
