MonkeyWiki: Wiki Spam

This wiki blocks any edits (plus renames and deletes) which originate from IP addresses listed on sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org and dnsbl.ahbl.org. This will not stop all spam, but maybe it will stop stuff coming via open proxies, virus spam-engines etc.

If you find that you are not allowed to make an edit, that will be because your IP address has been blacklisted. This is unlikely to happen, but if it does:

If you are using an anonymous proxy server, don't!
If not, it is possible that your computer is in some way compromised - check it out.

This functionality is not included in the Monkey Wiki script, but I will either include it in future releases or make it available as a separate module. I will keep experimenting with blacklists to use, the next one to try will probably be dnsbl.sorbs.net (but not all the zones).

As an alternative, I also want to look at using Akismet [1] (when I have time to sit down and work out how to!)
